Many people have heard of the studies that prove
that having pets, such as cats and dogs around the house can improve
the stress level of the occupants. In fact stroking a cat whilst
engaging in a stressful or blood pressure raising activity such as
studying for a test, or even playing casino games at the online casino, can actually help lower stress levels and regulate blood
pressure. What many people may not be aware of is the study that has
shown that dogs and cats can have a powerful effect on the health of
children in the early years of their life. Research in the
Paediatrics journal has shown that children who are brought up in a
home with a pet during their first year of life are likely to be
healthier compared to children who are not. Children who had a dog in
their home had 31% fewer respiratory tract infections than those who
did not. And they also had 44% less ear infections. Cats also seem to
have a many beneficial effects on the children’s health although
not as much as dogs do. As well as these health benefits animals also
help to boost children’s self esteem and help them feel less lonely
than children who do not have pets in their home. A pet is also agreat trigger for children’s socialization and a walk out in the
park with a dog is likely to be a great conversation piece among the
children’s peers.
